These points were originally used as part of a competition RWS ran for prizes but that was finished a while ago. We decided to keep the application because the concepts are quite interesting if you wanted to see how much you can increase your points by making more use of the productivity features available. XML Reader

This XML Reader application provides a simple way to convert the XML analysis reports generated by Studio to Excel. Sometimes translators are sent the XML files alongside the sdlxliff files and no project package which means they are unable to easily read the analysis. This application supports a simple drag and drop of the xml files and conversion to excel of as many reports as you like. XLIFF Manager for Trados Studio

The Problem You need to share files for translation or review and the people you are sharing with don't use Studio, they can't support SDLXLIFF, and they want to use a CAT tool. You also do so much of this you need to have a better way of managing the process. You want to be able to share one XLIFF on a multi-lingual project and have the translators complete the target language. The Solution The XLIFF Manager is the solution to this problem as it provides the following core features: - export your Studio projects as vanilla XLIFF 1.2 files - export your Studio projects as Google Polyglot XLIFF files - choose whether the target language should be set or not on export - choose whether you export all the segments in your files or not - import the translated XLIFF files back into Studio and update your Studio projects - map unsupported languages from your clients system in support of the import - generate reports of the changed work - be in control of the end to end process with a project management view in Studio Planned Enhancements for the future updates - progress bars while waiting for the export/import. Now you can check active Studio project in Xbench 2.9 with just one-click. You no longer need to create a new Xbench project or add files to a project manually. The Xbench 2.9 Plugin creates Xbench projects, adds files from an active Studio project and runs Xbench automatically for you. Then, just click 'Check ongoing translation' in the Xbench application to perform a QA-check. The name of this plug-in is Xbench 2.9 Plugin, however, it works with Xbench 2.9 as well as Xbench 3.x.

Word Count Copy

Quickly copy analysis word counts with a single command from within Studio. You can copy word counts of a project or selected files. The word counts that are copied are the same as the ones visible in the standard Analysis Statistics pane in Studio. Simply select the project or the files you want and choose Copy Word Counts from the right-click menu. Alternatively, click the Copy Word Counts button on the Add-Ins tab or press the keyboard shortcut Alt+F5 (configurable in the Studio options). The copied word counts will be placed on the clipboard in both tab separated and html format so that they can be pasted wherever you want them, for example in applications like Microsoft Word or Excel. Once installed, restart Studio and you will now be able to perform the new command in the projects and files view. You can either right click on a project/file or navigate to the 'Add-ins' tab in the ribbon.

Web Lookup

The Web Lookup plugin for Studio allows the user to select text in the source or target language of the translation and run an internet search by clicking on an icon in the ribbon, right-clicking in the editor and selecting "web lookup" or through the use of a simple keyboard shortcut. The search takes place in one of the 40 preconfigured websites... but that's not all! You can add your own websites to the menu or remove existing ones to configure the application the way you like. There is a useful guide that helps you to create the correct search URL and use it in the application. The search results themselves are language sensitive. For example, if you select a German source word then the results will be in a German website if available, and an English target language will result in a search result from an English website etc. The results are displayed in a window in Studio which can be placed wherever you like to make your personal use more convenient. Updates within V1.4 You can restrict the functionality of the browser so that images are not downloaded and scripts are not run. This done in Settings and will make things faster and more stable for some sites. You can share your own lookup methods with other Web Lookup users. This is also done in Settings – click Share in the dialog. Updates within V1.3 Opened tabs will be re-opened when Studio is re-started. Upon performing a lookup, the focus will move to the Web Lookup tabs for easy browsing among the open tabs using the arrow keys. When focus is in the web page, pressing Esc will move focus to the tabs and when focus is on the tabs, Esc will move focus to the translation segment. The standard autocomplete feature of Internet Explorer is now functional in Web Lookup, meaning that for example login details can be remembered.

Vertical Review

Vertical Review is a separate view part in the Editor. With a translation active in the Editor simply choose View -> Vertical Review on the menu in Studio to open it. You will get a view-only display of a set number of segments at a time, with the active segment showing both source and target, a bit like the old Trados TagEditor. You can browse through your translated files in Vertical Review to review the translation in a top-down vertical view or work away as normal in the standard Editor with Vertical Review as an additional segment view. With Vertical Review you also get keyboard shortcuts, Ctrl+Shift+PgUp and Ctrl+Shift+PgDown, for moving up and down through all segments, regardless of segment status. The font and background colours can be set to optimise readability.
