Change Scaling Behaviour

Change Scaling Behaviour

By Trados AppStore Team

Many new computers today have the ability to provide a high resolution that offers many advantages such as:

- Optimized usability and readability of applications on high-DPI displays
- Better experience for multi-display systems
- Possibility for developers to optimize app-specific scaling based on display DPI

Whilst RWS is working on enhancing support for these high resolution environments it is a work in progress and often some of the menus and screens can appear very crowded and difficult to read.

The solution to date is a KB article that offers several solutions, the last of which is a fix in the registry. This application automates the fix known as "Workaround 3" in the KB article.

To use the app just download the zip and unzip the exe file inside to a folder on your computer. Run the exe file and the program will launch immediately, it is not an installer. You will probably see a user account warning because the app is going to make the changes described in the KB article to your registry, so if you are happy with this just click ok and then apply the changes for the software you are using.

This may not work for every computer, and we have seen some Hi-Resolution 4k screens where this did not help, but in most cases it does and it's a convenient way to apply the fix.

The AutoHotKey Manager provides a simple way to manage and share AutoHotKey scripts from within Trados Studio.

AutoHotKey is a free scripting tool which you must have installed to be able to use the plugin effectively; you can get this from here.

If you're not familiar with AutoHotKey and how it can be used, then these articles might be useful:
- AutoHotkey scripts for translators
- AutoCorrect… for everything!

In time, we hope there will also be scripts written by others which can be added to the AppStore to give users a headstart and allow them to curate their own favourites using the plugin.
Finally, there is an AutoHotKey forum in the RWS Community where you can ask any questions about writing your own scripts or adapting scripts from others.

To learn how to use this application, please visit AutoHotKey Manager in the RWS Community wiki

applyTM Template

By Trados AppStore Team

Problem
Do you maintain many file-based Translation Memories? Have you ever had to update the segmentation rules, abbreviation lists, variable lists, or ordinal follower lists in Trados Studio? Have you ever wondered how to get all of these details from a Language Resource Template? If you have, then you'll be familiar with the effort that is required to make changes as they need to be applied across all of your Translation Memories one at a time; and with the inability to get at these resources once they are part of a template.

Solution
The applyTM Template application removes the repetitive effort that is required to make these changes. Now you can maintain one Language Resource Template and apply the changes to all of your Translation Memories in one go!

It works by selecting the template and then adding all of your TMs (browse or drag and drop) in one go; check the resources you wish to be updated based on your template; then click apply. You can maintain resources for multiple languages in the same template, and the application will show you visually which languages were changed or not.

You can also export these resources to Excel where it might be easier to carry out maintenance and then import them back into your template afterwards. And of course, you can import the resources from your Translation Memories into a Language Resource Template.

To learn how to use this application, please visit ApplyTM Template in the RWS Community wiki
