Description

TM Fusion for Trados is an advanced maintenance tool for translation memories in Trados Studio... so SDLTM files. These files are essentially SQLite so we have taken the open-source project DB Browser for SQLite and published a modified version of it in the Trados AppStore Team github site. If you don't want to compile it yourself you can download a compiled version of the latest published build from here.

We have essentially added a Trados tab to the original application so that more advanced users can still use all the features of DB Browser for SQLite, but with the added convenience of customised Trados features that can do at least as much as the out of the box Trados Studio TM Maintenance tool and a bit more:

  • fully supports regular expressions as well as plain text operations
  • simplified and advanced query capability using SQLite
  • batch edit features across translation units and field values
  • tag deletion features
  • various preset filters and the ability to create your own
  • Quick Filters on source AND/OR target translation units
  • import/export to TMX
  • it's fast!

This release is being released as a Preview because we would like to have more user testing and feedback on this tool to establish its worth. All feedback should be channelled through the RWS Community forums.

Open-source Project

DB Browser for SQLite is developed predominantly in C++, utilising the Qt framework for its graphical user interface components. As an open-source project, contributions are highly encouraged. Developers are welcome to submit pull requests via the GitHub repository, offering bug fixes or enhancements to the project.

Overview

TM Fusion is based on merging the capabilities of DB Browser for SQLite which is an open source application primarily developed in C++ using the Qt framework for its graphical user interface, and the features in the TM Maintenance View of Trados Studio. The fusing of these features provides the user with a powerful tool to navigate and edit a Trados Studio Translation Memory (SDLTM).

We have added the Trados specific features within a new tab added to the browser as shown in the annotated screenshot below:

1. Query builder and filter management

2. Quick Filter

3. Batch Editing functionality

4. TMX import/export

5. Translation Memory viewer

6. Translation Unit Editor

7. Custom Field Editor

There is also a small utility built to attempt to recover a corrupt Translation Memory. This is never going to be 100% effective as it will depend on how badly the file has been damaged, but it may be helpful. This can be found under the Tools menu as shown below:

In addition to this you have full access as an advanced user to all the features available out of the box with DB Browser for SQLite. For help on how to use these features please refer to the documentation available through the official home of the original application.

Over time we'll build this documentation out, but hopefully the use of the Trados specific features will be self explanatory.

XLIFF Manager for Trados Studio

By Trados AppStore Team

The ProblemYou need to share files for translation or review and the people you are sharing with don't use Studio, they can't support SDLXLIFF, and they want to use a CAT tool. You also do so much of this you need to have a better way of managing the process. You want to be able to share one XLIFF on a multi-lingual project and have the translators complete the target language. The SolutionThe XLIFF Manager is the solution to this problem as it provides the following core features:- export your Studio projects as vanilla XLIFF 1.2 files- export your Studio projects as Google Polyglot XLIFF files- choose whether the target language should be set or not on export- choose whether you export all the segments in your files or not- import the translated XLIFF files back into Studio and update your Studio projects- map unsupported languages from your clients system in support of the import- generate reports of the changed work- be in control of the end to end process with a project management view in StudioPlanned Enhancements for the future updates- progress bars while waiting for the export/import. Useful for large projects- support for tracked changes in the import- add support for an XLIFF 2.1 export- add support for an SDLXLIFF export (to help with the management of an SDLXLIFF file workflow outside of a package)- we're open to suggestions in the RWS Community! To learn how to use this application, please please check the Documentation tab.
