Description

Glossary Converter allows to convert between MultiTerm Termbases and other terminology formats by simple drag and drop, with minimal user interaction. It supports sdltb, xdt+xml (MultiTerm Export) , xls, xlsx, csv, txt, utx, glo, bgl (read only) and tmx (V2 and V3).

It aims to preserve all information, but it does not guarantee lossless roundtrips between different file formats. For example history fields are only supported in sdltb, spreadsheets and tmx, and some of the more complex field types of tbx and sdltb are not preserved.


Once installed, you will find Glossary Converter as a desktop shortcut. It will then open up as a stand alone app outside of Trados Studio.

Changelog:

  • I had to stop using a 3rd party Excel component, affecting a few features. None of them are critical, I think, but feel free to disagree :-) See Excel Limits for more information.
  •     Hidden sheets/rows/columns are always processed, no ignored
  •     Fast/Large Excel modes are now default, no longer optional
  • Log and warn user if xls output is used for more than 65,534 entries
  • changed the hot keys on the main screen. Alt + I now opens the file dialog for input files and Alt + O the output settings
  • Fix: Fields in TBX were lost. Side effect of another fix in 6.3.8789
  • Fix: Depending on formatting (whitespace) of the source, history fields in TBX may have had their contents overwritten by the defaults
  • Fix: Depending on formatting (whitespace again) about half of tbx input got dropped.
  • Fix: when converting an input file with the extension .xml into xdt/xml output, there was an error about a file already open
  • Fix: intermittent crashes with this error: "The type initializer for 'Sdl.MultiTerm.Tools.GlossaryConverter.Languages.LanguageFinder' threw an exception.
  • Fix: converter could not handle input files that are open in Excel
  • Fix: Error when trying to convert to xls when "large file mode" in excel settings is off
